First Reading
Malachi 3:13-20
13"Your words have been stout against me, says the LORD. Yet you say, `How have we spoken against thee?'  14You have said, `It is vain to serve God. What is the good of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the LORD of hosts?  15Henceforth we deem the arrogant blessed; evildoers not only prosper but when they put God to the test they escape.'"  16Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another; the LORD heeded and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the LORD and thought on his name. 17"They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.  18Then once more you shall distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 1:1-4, 6
1Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away. 6for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Gospel
Luke 11:5-13
5And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, `Friend, lend me three loaves;  6for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him';  7and he will answer from within, `Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything'?  8I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs.  9And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  10For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.  11What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;  12or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?  13If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

First Reading
Acts 1:12-14
12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day's journey away;  13and when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James.  14All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
Responsorial Psalm
Luke 1:46-55
46And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; 49for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. 51He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, 52he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; 53he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. 54He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever."
Gospel
Luke 1:26-38
26In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,  27to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.  28And he came to her and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!"29But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. 30And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  31And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.  32He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end." 34And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?"  35And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. 36And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.  37For with God nothing will be impossible."  38And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

First Reading
Jonah 3:1-10
1Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying,2"Arise, go to Nin'eveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you."3So Jonah arose and went to Nin'eveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nin'eveh was an exceedingly great city, three days' journey in breadth.4Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he cried, "Yet forty days, and Nin'eveh shall be overthrown!"5And the people of Nin'eveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.6Then tidings reached the king of Nin'eveh, and he arose from his throne, removed his robe, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.7And he made proclamation and published through Nin'eveh, "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, or drink water,8but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them cry mightily to God; yea, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence which is in his hands.9Who knows, God may yet repent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we perish not?"10When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God repented of the evil which he had said he would do to them; and he did not do it.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 130:1-4, 7-8
1Out of the depths I cry to thee, O LORD! 2Lord, hear my voice! Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! 3If thou, O LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? 4But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. 7O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plenteous redemption. 8And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
Gospel
Luke 10:38-42
38Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house.  39And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching.  40But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."  41But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;  42one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."

Jonah 1:1--2:2, 11
11Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amit'tai, saying,2"Arise, go to Nin'eveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness has come up before me."3But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went on board, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD.4But the LORD hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened to break up.5Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried to his god; and they threw the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down, and was fast asleep.6So the captain came and said to him, "What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call upon your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we do not perish."7And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.8Then they said to him, "Tell us, on whose account this evil has come upon us? What is your occupation? And whence do you come? What is your country? And of what people are you?"9And he said to them, "I am a Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land."10Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, "What is this that you have done!" For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.11Then they said to him, "What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?" For the sea grew more and more tempestuous.12He said to them, "Take me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you; for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you."13Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring the ship back to land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.14Therefore they cried to the LORD, "We beseech thee, O LORD, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood; for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee."15So they took up Jonah and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased from its raging.16Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows.17And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.21Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish,2saying, "I called to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and thou didst hear my voice.
Responsorial Psalm
Jonah 2:3-5, 8
3For thou didst cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all thy waves and thy billows passed over me.4Then I said, `I am cast out from thy presence; how shall I again look upon thy holy temple?'5The waters closed in over me, the deep was round about me; weeds were wrapped about my head8Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their true loyalty.
Gospel
Luke 10:25-37
25And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"  26He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"  27And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."  28And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."  29But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"  30Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.  31Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.  33But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion, 34and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.  35And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, `Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'  36Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"  37He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

First Reading
Sirach 50:1, 3-4, 6-7
1The leader of his brethren and the pride of his people was Simon the high priest, son of Onias, who in his life repaired the house, and in his time fortified the temple. 3In his days a cistern for water was quarried out, a reservoir like the sea in circumference. 4He considered how to save his people from ruin, and fortified the city to withstand a seige. 6Like the morning star among the clouds, like the moon when it is full; 7like the sun shining upon the temple of the Most High, and like the rainbow gleaming in glorious clouds;
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 16:1-2, 5, 7-8, 11
1Preserve me, O God, for in thee I take refuge. 2I say to the LORD, "Thou art my Lord; I have no good apart from thee." 5The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; thou holdest my lot. 7I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8I keep the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 11Thou dost show me the path of life; in thy presence there is fulness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.
Second Reading
Galatians 6:14-18
14But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.  15For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.  16Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God.  17Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.  18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.
Gospel
Matthew 11:25-30
25At that time Jesus declared, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes;  26yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.  27All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.  28Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Baruch 4:5-12, 27-29
5Take courage, my people, O memorial of Israel! 6It was not for destruction that you were sold to the nations, but you were handed over to your enemies because you angered God. 7For you provoked him who made you, by sacrificing to demons and not to God. 8You forgot the everlasting God, who brought you up, and you grieved Jerusalem, who reared you. 9For she saw the wrath that came upon you from God, and she said: "Hearken, you neighbors of Zion, God has brought great sorrow upon me; 10for I have seen the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting brought upon them. 11With joy I nurtured them, but I sent them away with weeping and sorrow. 12Let no one rejoice over me, a widow and bereaved of many; I was left desolate because of the sins of my children, because they turned away from the law of God. 27"Take courage, my children, and cry to God, for you will be remembered by him who brought this upon you. 28For just as you purposed to go astray from God, return with tenfold zeal to seek him. 29For he who brought these calamities upon you will bring you everlasting joy with your salvation."
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 69:33-37
32Let the oppressed see it and be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. 33For the LORD hears the needy, and does not despise his own that are in bonds. 34Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves therein. 35For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah; and his servants shall dwell there and possess it; 36the children of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
Gospel
Luke 10:17-24
17The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!" 18And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.  19Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.  20Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."  21In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.  22All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."  23Then turning to the disciples he said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see!  24For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."

Exodus 23:20-23
20"Behold, I send an angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.  21Give heed to him and hearken to his voice, do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression; for my name is in him. 22"But if you hearken attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. 23"When my angel goes before you, and brings you in to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Per'izzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jeb'usites, and I blot them out,
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 91:1-6, 10-11
1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, 2will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust." 3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; 4he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 10no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent. 11For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways.
Gospel
Matthew 18:1-5, 10
1At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" 2And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them,  3and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  4Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  5"Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me;  10"See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.
